Secrets from Asia 2. Skincare tips

Support K - Thursday, September 23, 2010

In this article of Skincare Tips #2, I will reveal to you a secret food that my mom has used for years to help her appear 15 years younger.  I will also discuss the importance of Collagen for skincare and general Acne tips that are proven to work.

My mother to this date has one of the most radiant and youthful looking skin for her age. Often many people mistaken her age by 15 years. Not bad for someone in their 60s!! She is complimented regularly by friends, family and even strangers for her  bright, firm and youthful looking glow. Never has she used chemicals or surgery to keep her skin looking youthful.

So what is her secret? It’s a combination of a Korean diet rich in vitamins and minerals, along with good rest, plenty of water, exercise and ….cucumbers!

Cucumber is a natural cleanser that helps skin irritations and swelling reduction. No wonder why millions of men and women use cucumbers as a tonic face remedy of all kinds.

Cucumber’s flesh is mostly water, but it also contains Vitamin C and caffeic acid – these nutrients help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling. Which is the primary reason cucumber has been a “skin care” product since the beginning of time.

Cucumber is a great source of silica, which is an essential component of healthy connective tissue. Cucumber juice (as a source of silica) is great for improving complexion and health of skin, plus it is naturally hydrating. It is a great  natural cleanser. So next time you want to wash your face, mix half a cup of milk with one table spoon of cucumber juice and use it as a cleanser. This mixture can store for up to one day in a fridge. This will clean, tone, and refresh your skin all at once.

• Applying cucumber juice to your face can lighten the skin and minimize freckles If your face gets sweaty, wipe it with a cucumber slice periodically throughout the day.

• Slices of cucumber are indispensable for dark circles and especially under-eye bags (puffiness). Lie down, put couple of slices on your eyes, making sure they touch the puffy areas, and give it 10 – 15 minutes or even overnight. This is a very old trick, that still works to this day.

• Another great strategy is to place sliced cumumbers directly on the face for 30 min or even overnight. The cucumbers will help enlighten the face and help rejuvinate a fresh, firmer look.

Do this once a week along with a proper skincare regimen for a cheap and effective therapuetic facial.

Collagen

Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins found in mammals. Approximately one quarter of all of the protein in your body is collagen. Collagen is the main protein of connective tissue. It has great tensile strength, and is the main component of ligaments and tendons. It is responsible for skin elasticity, and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging.

High-molecular collagen is an important moisture retainer and is suitable for all skin types. It has been proven that collagen increases hydration, improves skin feeling and decreases the extent and depth of wrinkles. The inner layer of the skin contains large amounts of collagen which breaks down at a rate of 1.5% every year after the age of 25. The skin's surface becomes dull and lifeless and the elasticity reduces over time causing certain parts to sag and wrinkle. Collagen has been proven to be beneficial for the improvement of the elasticity of the skin aiding repair and regeneration of ligaments, tendons, joints and bones and improving the connective tissue of the skin. The way your skin looks is directly related to the way your skin is supported. Wrinkles form when the natural collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin diminish during the natural aging process.

BRTC’s new revolutionary Medistem Face and Eye Creams are made from pure Collagen peptides. The combination of collagen peptides, plant cell complex and adenosine helps instantly reduce and soothe fine lines and wrinkles on the skin while firming and lightening the overall face. I use this set both day and night to prevent fine lines and also to diminish the appearance of lines around my eyes and mouth. My mother to this date still uses the Medistem Eye cream.

 Acne Tips

Acne affects as many as 17 million people in the United States alone, making it the most common skin disease. Today there are over 100 million acne sufferers across the globe. Many Koreans are obsessed with clean and radiant skin and will do anything to the dreaded pimple. I don’t need to go into details of how or why acne is formed but we all know that Acne affects many of us with our image, confidence and overall quality of life.

How can you fight acne?

Here are some straight to the point- acne tips that will help your acne be gone immediately. These are all tips that I regularly follow and live by that has helped me to keep my pure, radiant skin tone.

        1. Water intake

About 70% of your body is made of water. And your skin is not an exception to this. It needs a lot of water which is beneficial for making cells healthier .

This is particularly more relevant to the external area of your skin, which is exposed to dust and harmful substances.

The dust and other pollutants dehydrate the skin cells. When cells are dehydrated, they have reduced capability of functioning, rebuilding and
healing, or removing waste efficiently.

Thus you need to consume a lot of water to replenish your skin. The consumption of water greatly enhances the cells' ability to function properly and reduce acne blemishes. But how much water is enough for your skin? For a healthy person, 1 gallon or 3.8 liters of water intake everyday is sufficient to establish healthy skin

        2. Benoxyl peroxide

Avoid it! Benoxyl peroxide is known to cause many skin complications and although there are numerous articles raving about this chemical, there are equally as many that go against it. In short, Benoxyl peroxide dries the skin, sometimes producing more oil build up which leads to more breakouts.

        3. Proper skincare regimen

Ensure you are following a proper and consistent skincare regimen. It is important to use products that has natural ingredients and not filled with chemicals. You should follow a proper cleansing regimen two or three times a day depending on the severity of your breakout and timing. It is important to select products that have tea tree oil as well as salycic acid which are natural acne fighting ingredients that work wonders on the skin.
The
Blemish Bundle Set is a guaranteed skincare regimen  for fighting acne and is made from botanical ingredients including tea tree oil, playcodon grandiflorum and willow bark. It is very soft and gentle on the skin and will not cause irritations.

I have been using this set for the last 2 years with amazing results. This should can be used even if you don’t have acne as it will help with maintaining soft velvet like skin. It's no wonder thousands of people swear and live by it.

4. Zinc

Eat foods rich in zinc - Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil-producing glands of the skin. A diet low in zinc can actually cause acne breakouts. Some foods include sesame flour, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds and oysters.

5. Stress

Stress has a strong relationship to acne and a profound impact. When under stress the body produces hormonal steroids, such as cortisol (a corticosteroid hormone frequently called hydrocortisone). Like other hormonal steroids (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, etc.) these chemicals target the skin in a disruptive manner and acne flare-ups may coincide with increased stress.

While it is easy to suggest the avoidance of stress, this is not likely to be accomplished. Begin recognizing stress levels and potentially stressful events or situations. A bath with candles, going to the gym, a power nap, meditation, yoga, listening to music are all proven stress reducing activities that will clear you away from cortisol.

If you follow these steps you should see some amazing skincare results. Perfect Radiant Skin is no longer a secret!
